- Lady Fatema(a) is an important figure for us in our faith and history.
- We can learn lessons from her life that are valuable and useful even today.
- Prophet Muhammad (s) used to say: “ Fatema is part of me. Whoever hurts her has hurt me and whoever pleases her has pleased me.”
- This statement is not only of a father for his daughter, but it is of a Prophet of God for someone who has a special status.
- She is an assistant to the Prophet in teaching and expanding his values especially when it came to women.
- Narration of a story of a lady who went to lady Fatema (a) to ask her questions about salaat for her old mother. After asking multiple questions the lady felt embarrassed but lady Fatema(a) encouraged her to keep on asking.
- This story shows that Lady Fatema(a) has a special status even when it comes to knowledge.
- She was also a great role model for her own children.
- Narration of the story of when Imam Hassan(a) saw his mother praying all night. She was praying for others but did not pray for herself. When Imam Hassan(a) asked her why she didn’t pray for herself, she gave a very profound answer which has become a proverb in Arabic:” Oh my son the neighbor comes first then the self”.
- In the Quran chapter 4 Aayat 36, Allah (s.w.t) gives us two commands which is a summary of some of the values that we have in our faith.
1. To worship Him.
2. To be kind to people around us starting with the family members and extending to others in the society.

- Islamophobia is one of the difficulties faced by Muslims especially in North America.
- Giving the example of a Muslim University student who became a target for bloggers after an interview she gave to The Global and Mail.
- Explaining the importance of exercising caution and wisdom before pressing the send button and forwarding any information we receive.
- By forwarding a false statement, you are helping the cause of the haters and those who are promoting Islamophobia.
- It is best to send the information to only whom it concerns so they can decide what to do with it.
- Explaining chapter 25, Aayat 72 of the Holy Quran.
- We should exercise staying away from gossip and vain talks even when it comes in written form on social media.
- We need to educate our friends, neighbours about our faith and our values so we can dispel the negativity and stereotyping about Islam and the Muslim community.
